Conditions Treated

This is the cornerstone of Rheumatology. Autoimmune disease can be devastating and affect almost any organ or tissue. Autoimmune disease CANNOT be diagnosed based on medical testing alone and requires a FULL history and COMPLETE physical examination in addition to specialty training to interpret medical testing results. (Please be prepared for this on your first visit, even if you have seen another Rheumatologist).

With extensive experience in making and studying autoantibodies in the laboratory, Dr. D brings a highly specialized, and locally unparalleled viewpoint with which to evaluate your case. Upon achieving a highly specific diagnosis, Dr. D works with each patient to tailor diagnosis driven treatment customized to each individual patient’s life situation.

Autoimmune diseases commonly treated in the office include but not limited to: Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Enteropathic (Crohn’s) arthritis, Lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, Dermatomyositis, Polymyositis, Scleroderma, Vasculitis

This is a degenerative process in the joints which affects up to 60 million people (about twice the population of Texas) in the USA. A multimodal approach is used to help reduce the pain burden of the most common joint disease in the country. The focus is combining healthy lifestyle choices with targeted use of medications and a variety of available injections with the goal of reducing or delaying the need for surgical intervention. Alternative and complementary approaches are combined to give the best chance of achieving patient goals.

Bones can become weak without symptoms. Often the first symptom is the actual breaking of a bone. The goal of osteoporosis is to test patients at risk with Bone Densitometry and tailor treatment based on individual risk. A combination of lifestyle changes and targeted medical treatment can prevent broken bones from happening.

Tendons and bursa frequently become overused and inflamed in many people during a normal day. If these become chronic, appropriate exercise modification, targeted medication and injections can very effectively reduce or eliminate the pain.

This is a chronic neurologic pain syndrome that can mimic autoimmune disease. FMS is diagnosed only after completion of full workup by a qualified Rheumatologist. Medications, when combined with lifestyle changes, stress management, sleep improvement, can significantly improve quality of life.

Several metabolic conditions can lead to deposits of various salt crystals in joints. This leads to severe, painful attacks. With medication treatment, and lifestyle modifications, these attacks can be completely prevented.
